Me and a friend both begun playing wow last year and have recently both hit 80 on our toons. I have a Ret Paladin & he has Enhancement Shaman. Due to the long grind we're both unwilling to level another character to 80, but when we both started we talked about wanting to do Arena at 80.

With that said, I was just wondering if a Ret Paladin and Enhance Shaman is a viable 2v2 team? I figured we better get someone who knows something about Arena's opinion before going through the honor grind to get gear.

Also, if we were to do 3v3 what class & spec would be a good addition to us?

We're both new to arena so any advice would be appreciated. :)

Ask your friend to roll Elemental.. Ele shammy and ret pala are a good comp.

Your games are going to be quick, win or lose matches. Out of the gate, your Enhance Shammie should pop wolfs and hero, and you should repent (follow up with a stun) one of their members, preferably the healer if they have one. Basically, if you don't manage to kill one of thier members before the wolfs or you die, you lose. I wouldn't expect this comp to make it high in the 2's bracket, but you may have a shot of getting 1800 and those wonderful weopons.

I don't think it's the most overpowered composition you could have, but it definitely could work. The idea here is that between Repentence, Hammer of Justice, Wolf Stun, Hex, you can lock down one member of the opposing team long enough that with Heroism, Wings, Wolves, etc you can burn down the other member.

You basically have to kill someone while your CD's are up. But you have a surprisingly large amount of CD's to survive in the team. You have Earthbind, Grounding, Tremor, BoP, Bubble, Defensive Dispelling, Offensive Dispelling, and interrupts.

The major issue you might have is that you don't have an MS effect. So, essentially, you're just going for total gib fests hoping that you our DPS the healer or out CC the healer.

Your team is likely most afraid of opposing team CC. Though you can use BoP, Bubble, Art of War FoL's, Maelstrom Healing Waves, and Shamanistic Rage to help mitigate damage, ultimately you're a burst team. If the opposing team can effectively CC you while your CD's rot, then you're going to have a hard time making a comeback.
