Ok guys as a enchanter and jewelcrafter i got a lot of nice stuff to offer to my fellow wow players but i was looking for a way to create a more elaborated and interesting profession trade chat announce then "enchanter LFW" type. Sometimes ive seen nice ones with separation and especial characters symbol that really catches the eye and stand out on the trade chat. Question is do someone know a nice elaborated macro for these professions or a addon that can work this way? Would be awesome to get somemore cliets with a nice informative trade chat announce!

Thanx in advance!

Are you actually asking us for advice to encourage spamming the trade channel more than it already is? =D – schm0 (Oct 28 2009 4:24 PM)

On RP servers, even with trade I believe not being an In Character Channel officially. you often get In Character advertisements. These are often longish, and at times can feel a bit dense and spam like. You only need 2-3 people Dumping a 4-5 line profession advertisement to cause my chat window to scroll at least.

There are people that use standard ascii art methods to make the advertisement more attractive, the least annoying of which I think are basic hi-lighting attempts by using underscores and dash's etc. You could use the standard 'flower' ones if you were selling weeds for example:

@}--'-,--

Has been used for as long as I can remember for text only flowers. Variations abound. There are also ways to get the extended characters out of WoW. Things like • § £ ™ º ¢ etc, these require you to know the extended codes for them - which depend on your operating system. But I will caution against the use of those, as well as any formatting that relies on the length of a line, tabs, or the like. Anyone that has installed any chat mods, or has customized even the size of the chat box may well not see what you wish, and more to the point may see something that looks poorly done. Same holds true if the font is replaced and the replacement font lacks the extended characters mentioned above.

Personally my advertisements are of the following format.

[Jewelcrafting] Currently in the Center of Dalaran.

Substitute the location and trade as approprate. I err on the side of a clean informative post, and if I am demanding a fee (I accept but do not force payment, so I don't normally get into it) or have a special in demand pattern I might mention it.

If you would like to do something such as link your profession in the trade window, you can use this macro:

/script CastSpellByName("prof");SendChatMessage("Looking for Work:" ..GetTradeSkillListLink(),"CHANNEL",nil,GetChannelName("Trade - City"));CloseTradeSkill();

Where prof would be replaced by the name of your profession. So, if you are looking to link your enchanting, you would have a message such as the following:

/script CastSpellByName("Enchanting");SendChatMessage("Looking for Work:" ..GetTradeSkillListLink(),"CHANNEL",nil,GetChannelName("Trade - City"));CloseTradeSkill();

This should result in a Trade chat message that looks like:

[YourName] [Trade]: Looking for Work: Enchanting

Should that be `*Enchanting*` or just `Enchanting` ?? Seems a bit odd to me- but it could need the *'s – ♦♦gnarf (Oct 30 2009 5:06 PM)

Interesting...when I originally wrote this, the *Enchanting* showed up as itallics...it should just be Enchanting w/o the stars...I have now fixed it. – Spazmoosifer (Oct 31 2009 4:34 AM)

This seems a little excessive for such a short message, is there anything shorter that accomplishes the same thing? – Woldo (Nov 1 2009 4:18 PM)

A few things I realized while looking this up again (I actually forgot I had posted this answer) is that Where it says ["Looking for Work:"..GetTradeSkillListLink()] can be changed to something like [GetTradeSkillListLink().." LFW"] also, if you don't ever leave trade chat (I do occasionally) you can replace [GetChannelName("Trade - City")] with ["2"] – Spazmoosifer (Feb 23 2010 2:48 PM)
