For gear, I'd probably get things in this order:

  1. Stained Shadowcraft Spaulders
  2. Stained Shadowcraft Tunic
  3. Venerable Dal'Rend's Sacred Charge for your MH
  4. Battleworn Thrash Blade for your OH
  5. Charmed Ancient Bone Bow
  6. Swift Hand of Justice for both your trinket slots (not Unique, you can equip two)

For spec, go combat (sword spec at 30 obviously). Personally I think combat is the least fun to play, but up to lvl 50 or so it is hands down the fastest way to level.

Edit: And don't forget to put +15 agility on both swords!

Edit: As noted in the comments (and other answer), it might technically be better to MH the thrash blade, and get a fast OH, but with full heirlooms, you move through levels so fast I find it is just easier to stick to the slightly sub-optimal MH Dal'Rends. You don't have to worry about re-enchanting and trolling the AH.

Better off Mainhanding the Thrashblade and upgrading weapons from quests/AH once you get past 35 (the level where Sword Spec becomes availiable) a fast OH will serve better than an heirloom - especially by 50 (thanks to Combat Potency). – Feist Nov 17 at 23:09

With regard to heirlooms, I'd say that the weapons will probably give the biggest boost to leveling, enabling faster mob killing and more loot. The experience bonus from the shoulders and chest are nice, but autoleveling heirloom weapons with Crusader enchant will kill things much faster than whatever random greens and blues you've picked up for that level.

My preference is Venerable Mass of McGowan for the MH just because it is also useful if you ever want to level a shaman, paladin or to a lessor extent, warriors or druids. They are available from EoH or Champions Seals. The only downside is that Lonika Stillblade will be unhappy.

No No No! Do not dual wield slow maces as a rogue! Even heirloom maces! While it won't really be bad prior to level 40 or so, by then, you can pick up Sword Specialization, and you really want to be able to take advantage of that. Use the Heirloom Thrash Blade from Wintergrasp as a mainhand, pick up OH's as you go. If you must go the MH Mace route, get the 1.5 Dagger as an OH (Sharpened Scarlet Kris). – Feist Nov 17 at 16:52
I have to agree with Feist, as a rule rogues only want slow weapons when doing FoK spam (for the high poison proc rates), and that's not until level 80. – Wridel Nov 17 at 18:51
I've removed my suggestion for having the mace as OH, but as an all-round weapon it is very versatile for a lot of classes – Dobablo Nov 18 at 7:00

Regarding heirloom items, the shoulderpads and chestpiece will help you level quickest, the XP bonus is very powerful. After that, the weapons are great, so you don't have to stalk the AH every few levels for a slightly better green item. The trinkets are also nice for reducing downtime.

As for which heirloom weapon to choose, I can't say as a rogue, but they are all pretty good. I will say to check out the PvP flavored ones too though; if you are short on emblems, you can use Stone Keeper's Shards to buy them instead.

The PvP purchased Battleworn Thrash Blade is the best MH availiable for a levelling rogue. You're better off just upgrading OH's from drops and quest rewards as you go over using an Heirloom though. – Feist Nov 17 at 17:19
