Help a Holy Paladin!

Hey there guys, I've been a Holy Paladin since day 1 of The Burning Crusade. Leveled all the way up to 80 with it, raided hardcore before WOTLK helping my old guild down a couple server firsts (ala Kael'Thas, and Illidan). Now in WOTLK, I took a break when they introduced Ulduar, now I've ran it a couple times never cleared it but my question is can you help a old school Holy Paladin with his gear? I've ran some heroics to get my T8 helm and such but can you offer advice on what to gem nowadays, I plan on running a lot of the 3.3 5 man's today (if the server allows it). I want to thank you guys' in advance, I really appreciate it! :)

The current theory seems to be to gem for intelligence since Holy Paladins gain spellpower, mana and crit from it, and bigger mana pool also means more return from Divine Plea. (source: wowpopular)

Run Regular Toc...ALOT and the new ICC dungeons- regular, then the heroic versions use your emblems for gear aswell, should be up to speed in no time, also gem for INT whenever you can and sp when you can't, sp on weapon and haste on cloak...I'm not uber or even close but my pally gets the job done, and needs some work, look her up. The Holy Paladin Guide on Elitist Jerks has a good section on Gemming, particularly meta's which noone else seemed to mention yet.

As far as the meta goes, their suggestion seems to be Insightful Earthsiege Diamond for its ~70 MP5

-1: If google is the answer, why does epic advice exist? Also - the FAQ specifically mentions being nice... "**Treat others with the same respect you'd want them to treat you.** We're all here to learn together. Be tolerant of others who may not know everything you know. Bring your sense of humor." – ♦♦gnarf (Jan 1 2010 12:28 PM)

You have a point with how good Elitist Jerks is for this kind of stuff (theorycrafting, saying whatever stat is best), but I still think its an extremely effortless, lazy answer. -1 – Clbull (Jan 5 2010 11:23 AM)

@gnarf, so because someone is too lazy to look something up somewhere else i get the down-vote? google may not tell you if a point of spell power is better for you than a point of intellect for each specific class and spec, but to be a holy pally since day one of bc and ask such a broad question that could easily be answered by doing a little of one's own research is a waste of people's time. – Unknown (Jan 13 2010 1:04 PM)

@unknown - I have edited your post to reflect a way you could have been constructive with this answer instead of mean. – ♦♦gnarf (Jan 27 2010 3:07 AM)

@unknown - I have edited your post to reflect a way you could have been constructive with this answer instead of mean. I didn't downvote because someone else was too lazy, I downvoted because you were too lazy to actually answer the question. – ♦♦gnarf (Jan 27 2010 3:08 AM)

@gnarf you edited his post and then you edited my answer. who the hell do you think you are? he basically asked how to play his class that he admitted to playing since bc. like he seriously wanted a whole guide to his class. that's lazy and pointless. now this has turned into something completely else entirely. i'm not going to 'fix' my answer because i want it to stay saying that YOU came in and changed it to say something i didn't say. there's a lot of great questions on this site. that doesn't mean every question is and that we should treat them that way. – Unknown (Jan 28 2010 12:40 PM)

The purpose of this website (and any stackexchange for that matter) is to answer people's questions, not to tell them where to go to find their answers. If you want to link to a resource that's fine, but do it in addition to the answer to the question. Even a quotation of that resource is better then just saying "here, look it up yourself." -1 for being a dick, and a nameless dick at that. – Wridel (Jan 28 2010 3:56 PM)

@unknown - As far as editing his post. I fixed a small grammar issue, and added a [gear] tag - you can look at the edit history to see what I changed. As far as who I think I am - The community administrator... I came in and changed your answer to actually have content as opposed to a link to a website, and some smart comment about L2goggle. It's still the link you provided, thanks for the contribution, a good one at that. You would be getting you some votes for this content if you weren't being a jerk. He wasn't lazy in this case, YOU were... Above all, be nice.. – ♦♦gnarf (Jan 28 2010 3:57 PM)

@gnarf again, so if we don't say exactly what you want how you want it you'll change it? what a great blog. yo know, some of the questions on this site are great - how does a set bonus compare to the raw stats on upgrades, what websites can i use for a resource besides whatever.com, where can i find a guide for x, what is the macro for x, how do i calculate such and such stat? but most of these questions are really lame and are clearly asked by people just being lazy. people can't bother to look something up themselves so they ask here. if you want this to be trade chat, that's what it will be – Unknown (Jan 29 2010 1:56 PM)

@wridel, sorry if my name being unknown offends you. i had my account set up here with my main's name but when i went home to log in it wouldn't let me even though i hadn't posted anything to be a 'dick' yet. so i made a second account and it wouldn't let me pick a name it just put my name at unknown. and i really didn't care. at lvl80, people should have some idea of what they're doing or where to look if they don't. this question before it was edited reminds me of the lvl80 pally on trade asking what spec he should be to tank. why would he ask on trade before looking it up? l-a-z-y – Unknown (Jan 29 2010 2:01 PM)

Intellect is currently the best stat to stack for Holy Paladins, it grants quite a bit of mana and crit chance and also has brilliant scaling with Int boosting talents and Blessing of Kings.

A higher mana pool also means you gain more from Replenishment, which also passively increasing your MP5 in nearly all raid situations. It also allows you to keep your heals going for longer before you go out of mana.

Pallies also scale quite well with Spell Power, Crit (though Illumination got heavily nerfed), Haste and moderate amounts of MP5. Intellect will still be their main stat.

good explanation on why +int is good. +1, oh: don't forget that +Int also helps increasing mana gain from Divine Plea. – blunder (Jan 5 2010 4:15 PM)

Paladin Schmaladin is a great resource for all Paladins that I highly recommend. Here's a couple of posts which may interest you with your Holy Paladin.

How to Heal Raids. This was written nearly a year ago now, so may be a bit out of date but a good overview if you need a refresher.

Comparison of 2 main Holy Paladin healing models. This is a more recent post (Nov 2009) which compares 2 of the main Holy Paladin healing models.

  1. Intellect heavy, high mana, focuses on Holy Light
  2. Spell power heavy, low mana, focuses on Flash of Light

Good reading for any high level Holy Paladin.

I stack int>sp>haste. it seems to work the best. as a holy pally you get 1% mana per each crit you get so int gives you crit and sp gives you bigger heals and haste gives you faster heals...in which everyone knows these things..just giving you my 2cents.
