spell hit rating for heroics

What spell hit rating should I be aiming for in Heroics? I'm not running raids now, just 5 man heroics through Dungeon Finder on my 80 Elemental Shaman. I know the target was 14% for raiding (assuming proper talenting). Does it differ if I only plan on running heroics?

The difference between heroics and raids is quite simple: heroic bosses are level 82, while raid bosses are skull (which is counted as lvl83 when calculating combat tables).

From there, you can get everything other bit of info you need from the Wowwiki article on spell hit, which is quite informative.

To summarize the important points:

  • You have 94% chance to hit a target 2 levels above you with spells
  • Therefore, with 0 hit and no hit talents you have 6% miss chance against heroic bosses
  • As an Elemental Shaman, if you have 3/3 Elemental Precision you are therefore short 3% hit
  • To make up for that, you therefore need 79 hit rating on your gear.
  • Note that if you're a Draenei, your racial makes up for 1% of the hit you're missing: as such you will only need 53 hit rating from gear to make up the remaining 2%.

Well crap I'm easily at the cap. I need to shed some +hit gear in favor of SP or haste. – Bovar (Jan 3 2010 10:12 PM)

BTW, if you're a space goat it's 1% less hit needed. – Nehi (Jan 5 2010 10:17 AM)

Good point as usual, adding. – Aeliel (Jan 5 2010 11:03 AM)

Additionally, I'd recommend using the addon Hit Assist to keep track of your current hit rating and make sure you're not using gear and/or gems with wasted hit rating when you could replace it with something more useful.
