In PvP situations, it seems that rogues are the bane of my warlock's existence. Death coil is the only instant ability I have to slow down or stop a rogue, but it has a pretty prohibitive cooldown. Sure, I have Fear of Howl of Terror, but by the time I'm able to get the spell cast, I've already been stunned and consequently killed. What is the best way for a warlock to deal with those troublesome rogues?

I don't know exactly what you need to do as a warlock, but I can give some insight from the other side. As a rogue, warlocks are reasonably squishy and extremely easy to control if you're not prepared for it. Some of the things that make my life difficult when trying to kill a warlock are listed below. Summoning Circle That little green circle has saved many locks from death at my hands. At least for a short bit. It confuses and angers me when I'm about to strike and suddenly my juicy little target is no longer within range of my daggers. Seduction How do you stop a rogue midway through his stunlock rotation? Have a sexy demon pop out and make eyes at him. While I may be intent on destroying my target, mechanics have made that impossible for the time being. I know there's a demon there and I do not desire it at all, but there's nothing I can do to prevent my staring, dazed, little hearts floating around. Thankfully DR means I can ignore it reasonably soon, but it will still interrupt my combo and if you can get it off right after KS hits, it saves you from alot of damage. DoTs DoTs suck. I can wipe them once every minute. If I'm smart, I'll probably eat some for a while before using my cloak to vanish and try for a reopener, but that's really only once. If you see a rogue and there aren't DoTs, throw CoA or anything that ticks for a bit really. It sucks. A lot. Can you tell I hate DoTs? Fear This is the most obvious, but used ineffectively most often. First, Death Coil is great, but don't ignore the healing factor. It really doesn't give you that much time away from me, and should be used to interrupt a combo and give yourself some breathing room. It should ALWAYS be chained into a fear. There are some times that I'll get jumpy and trinket the DC to get back on the target. If you're lucky, you just made me waste a trinket. Second, don't try to cast fear while I'm in melee range. Ever. Kick, Gouge, KS, or my personal favorite... Pre-cloak. Do you know how funny it is to pop cloak just as a lock is using fear? It's one of my favorite things. The most annoying thing is getting feared right after a lock disappears into thin air. Though, the best way to learn anything in PvP is to just go out and do it. Find a rogue buddy who will duel with you for a while. Experiment with your surroundings and figure out the best way to avoid the dreaded stunlock. Good luck with that though. |

As an Affliction Warlock I would definitely get your pet on the Rogue as quickly as you can. Regardless of which demon you have out. I've distracted many a Rogue long enough to break his combo and gain some distance on him using this technique. At the risk of being the broken record, the above posts are very right:
Other than that, practice makes perfect. Rogues are a very dangerous enemy but with the right allies such as a priest or even another rogue you can survive. :) |

I just got my dual-spec, and have my second spec as affliction pvp. You can get Howl of Terror to an instant, which helps immensely. I still generally die within about 1.2 seconds, but sometimes I actually stand a chance, whereas with my primary spec I just stood there and took the beating. My spec. |

I personally keep my voidwalker out in PvP for 'Sacrifice'... nothing quite like a damage-absorbing bubble to keep you alive during the initial opening, and then Death Coil the moment you're out of the stun combination. I also believe that Death Coil is a 'Horror' affect, rather than a fear, and as such cannot be countered by fear immunity effects... not sure how that affects trinkets. |

Rogues usually open up with Cheap Shot and then stack combo points for a Kidney Shot. If you don't have succubus out your best bet is to wait through 4s stun from cheap shot and use trinket as soon as kidney shot lands. If you trinket out of cheap shot, you will immediatelly be put into kidney shot and most likely later followed up with vanish and cheap shot again (essentially keeping you in stun all the way to death). So once you trinket kidney shot follow up with death coil or shadowfury and fear the rogue. From there on keep dots ticking and keep your distance from the rogue which hopefully will lead you to a victory. That said, I find rogues to be the hardest enemy as a warlock. |

It's all about layering control. I would suggest not using death coil until they burn their trinket if you can avoid it. Shadowfury, Fear, Howl of Terror, Death Coil. Just layer and chain the CD's while reapplying DPS when available. He can't kick all the spells, and he can't trinket all the fears. This works far better in an arena, particularly paired with a priest who has fears of their own. If this is a 1v1, then you just have to hope he doesn't have all his CD's up or that you get a really clutch CC combo on him before his buddies roll up on you. Like someone above said, using the teleport circle is another great gap creating move. He's also right, do not trinket out of sap, blind, or cheap shot. Save trinket for kidney shot and his whole chain of control is over and you're free to start having your way with him. |

Your succubus is a demon if im not mistaken, so when he opens up on you, get your succubus to seduce to hold him off for a few seconds. PvP trinket on kidney shot. and try to use the teleport to get some good distance away from the rogue. (This is hard in BGs, easy in arena) |

One suggestion I'll add is make sure you can see them. I'm not sure how effective Detect Invisibility is on the rogues you're facing with the talents they can take to improve stealth. If you can see them and stop them before they're in melee range, you win. It's the same concept as above, distance and range are your friends. So is Seduction, even if that happens after you've been stunned, if you can get out of that stun (trinkets?) while your pet has the rogue managed they've lost a lot of advantage. I suppose this doesn't even have to be seduction if one of your other pets can keep the rogue more interested in killing the pet than you. |

The only way I find myself beating rogues is by creating as much distance as possible. Use death coil, seduction, fear, shadowfury, and even summon infernal to get some distance between the two of you. Then run toward your buddies. I am admittantly poor at PvP, but this is what I do to get away. I highly suggest that you roll a rogue alt and level him to do some PvP, doesn't even need to be max level. Then you get some nice satisfaction of murdering squishies while seeing what other warlocks do that's most effective. |
