Which BOA gear should I get for my new hunter?

I just started a hunter and would like to know which BOA/heirloom gear to get - obviously I have the chest and shoulders - what trinkets, melee weapon and ranged weapon would be best for pve leveling?

Here are some links based on the various hunter specs, which will include all of the BoA items usable by hunters, arranged by "score" based on the scaling factors on the site.

Using the scaling factors available on Wowhead.com for each spec, it looks to me that the following would be the way to go:

You might find additional items that could help out while leveling, but these would be the ones to pick up first.

What (if any) weapons would you recommend? – DarkFinch (Apr 26 2010 12:34 PM)

If you go to those links, and mouseover "Armor" at the top, and mouse down and select Weapons instead, you will see the scales applied to heirloom weapons. You can also click "Group results by slot" to make the lists more readable. Long story short, there are only two heirloom ranged weapons, and one has resilience. – Wikwocket (Apr 26 2010 12:54 PM)

Excellent. Thanks. – DarkFinch (Apr 26 2010 1:01 PM)

The Shadowcraft gear is not good for hunters. You can use the mail versions as it scales down if your character is below level 40. Champion's Deathdealer Breastplate and Champion Herod's Shoulders. – Woldo (Apr 26 2010 8:41 PM)

I agree to / verify what Woldo said. The mail heirlooms (as well as the plate ones) scale down to leather / mail for characters below lvl 40. – Nayu (Apr 27 2010 5:44 AM)

Thanks - that is exactly what I was looking for. I can also use those links for any future alts I make. – Wolfsbane (Apr 27 2010 9:37 AM)

+1 on getting the mail heirlooms instead – Gahju (Apr 27 2010 10:22 AM)

Good thing the servers are down right now. I would've wasted precious emblems on leather heirloom gear! Thanks for pointing this out, Woldo. – DarkFinch (Apr 27 2010 10:52 AM)

I suspect that the Leather items are rated higher simply because they have hit rating on them where the Mail items do not, whether or not you want the hit rating while leveling is up to you, but if you are dungeon running, you may end up better off with the leather items over the mail. – Spazmoosifer (Apr 28 2010 9:24 AM)

Bah I forgot for a while, it would be the last BoA but you can also get the second trinket for the mana return, assuming that you don't have a better one available to level with (which is unlikely before Outlands) – Woldo (May 18 2010 7:51 AM)

If you're on a PvP server, or PvP at all, you can pick up the BoA PvP trinket with Stone Keeper's Shards in Wintergrasp.

The mail or leather stuff is great for hunters, the leather not because of scaling but because the hit is awesome, but the mail stuff comes with agi and int so that's your choice really.

For weapons, I'd recommend 2x Balanced Heartseekers (dagger), especially if you're using the mail chest and shoulders. There is also a sword you can use if you prefer, Venerable Dal'rends Sacred Charge. And of course, the Bone Bow.

OK - so I got 2x Balanced Heartseekers but can only equip 1 - when and where can I learn to dual wield? – Wolfsbane (Apr 29 2010 8:18 AM)

At level 20 you learn it from your trainer :) – Jaedia (May 1 2010 11:30 AM)

Wrong.

Hunters start to use mail at level 40.

So you should use [Champion Herod's Shoulder] and [Champion's Deathdealer Breastplate] and not Stained Shadowcraft Tunic/Stained Shadowcraft Spaulders.

Mail heirlooms bought will lower one level of armor type (to Leather) for characters below level 40.

Already in my comment, I'm actually surprised they didn't edit it in. Nevertheless +1 for putting into an answer, and because you don't have the rep to comment yet. – Woldo (May 18 2010 7:48 AM)

+1 so you can comment next time – Woldo (May 18 2010 7:49 AM)

Like I mentioned in my comment above, it seems that whether the Mail items or the Leather items are better depends on whether you want the Hit rating. If you feel the Hit Rating is necessary, you are likely going to be better off with the Leather set, but if you don't feel you need the Hit Rating, you would be better off with the Mail items. – Spazmoosifer (May 18 2010 10:40 AM)

+1 so you can comment as well. keep in mind that starting an answer (or comment) off with 'wrong' is a surefire way to get down-voted. – Unknown (May 18 2010 1:42 PM)
