How long will it take to go from level 80 to 85?

Game Developers for WoW have said in the forums that leveling from 80 to 85 will take 'about as long' as leveling from 70 to 80. I think that since leveling up to 82 is now possible, there may be some experience with how this is working in practice.

For me, leveling from 70 to 80 the first time was part of my first ever leveling experience; I simply didn't know 'how to play' in the way that I do now. Combine this with built in flying on my recent leveling experiences, and I really have no idea how long it is 'supposed' to take for the average person to level.

If I took 5-6 hours per level from 70-80 on my first toon, and I take more like 2-3 hours per level now, what kind of leveling time am I looking at to get a toon from 80 to 85 once Cataclysm is released, assuming that the current experience gains on the curve from 80-82 are going to be similar from 82 to 85?

The current beta leveling time is probably not similar to release leveling time. Experience gain/required is regularly adjusted to fit content. Also, note that current beta carries over 1.5levels of rested bonus that will not be present on live. – Dobablo (Jul 12 2010 7:18 AM)

I would say in all honesty that it will take about 30 to 32 hours of game play to reach the level 85 cap. That is with no rested bouns which I dont think we will have at the start.

Chris,

Leveling from 80-85 will really depend on you the player. I say it that way because several factors will play into it.

1 - Do you "read" the quests? If you do, if you're interested in the lore behind it -- which some quests do get into -- then you're going to take a bit longer leveling.

2 - Do you know someone who played the beta version? If you do, and can tap that knowledge base once Cata is live, it may take you less time because you're going to have a guide to help you along. I know my guild is excited that I'm playing the Beta and have already "deemed me" the Cata guide once it's live.

3 - Do you use a lot of addons? IE: Quest Helper, Carbonite and etc. If you do, it may take you longer to level or less time depending on how quickly those particualar addons are updated. On the beta, we have no addons, (and I don't use them live anyway), so for me, I running through levels pretty quickly. Yesterday in about seven hours of play on the beta, I went from 20-27 on my Goblin. Now, bear in mind that the xp needed per level on the beta and what it will be ultimately on the live version will vary, so...

4 - Do you level primarily through Quests or Dungeons? Now, I've known players that go both ways -- each has it's own pro's and cons mind you -- so that will make a difference as well. If you level primarily through Quests, I've found that in Beta there are plenty to get you from 80-82 and ultimately 85 once the rest of the content is available in the Beta. If you level primarily through Dungeons, you might not get there as quickly due to the fact that at the moment there's only about 5 to work with vs. about 10 that came out with Lich King, so keep that in mind. You may need to do a combination of both in order to level relatively quickly once Cata is live. Up to you.

Hope that helps.

Even though there have been people that complete the 80-85 leveling in just over 5 hours (according to the data available on MMO-Champion), this is very much out of the ordinary, and based on personal experience, each level will take somewhere between 2 and 6 hours depending on your play style (i.e. are you leveling professions at the same time, or dungeon running, or reading quests).

Also, because the rate at which you kill things plays a huge role in your time spent leveling, if you have better gear, you will obviously level more quickly.

Assuming around 3 hours of play time per day, I would expect the leveling timeframe to last around one to one-and-a-half weeks of play time in order to hit level 85.

84-85 alone requires 9.2 million (thats right million) experience so good luck doing that in 3 hours.

It took me 28-29 hours of nothing but quests. If I had rushed or gone to higher zones before finishing quest lines, I'm sure I could have shaved a few hours off. If you grind / do lots of dungeons you can halve that time. Our server first was 13 hours, world first was only about 5 hours.

The levels get noticeably longer as you approach 85. I hit 83 in just under 12 hours and spent the next 16 hours on 84 & 85.

Your play style & method of leveling will determine how long it takes. If you relax & take your time questing I'd say 36 hours. If you rush through quests and zone hope you can probably make it in 24 hours. If you throw successful in random dungeons you can shave a few more hours off, and if your grind mobs / dungeons you can hit 85 in 15 hours or so.

If you are some insane WoW manic, 10 hours or less. If you are a regular person who doesn't meticulously plan out every little quest and dungeon you'll do, at least 20 hours, or more if you are fond of spending your time doing other things like AH, professions, etc.

It takes approx. 6-13 hours of play time to get from 80-85, my server's first to 85 took about 10 hours and I clocked in at about 12.5 hours played, seeing another "server first" on my class made me stop and take a bit more time.

Otherguy, if it took you 7.5 hours to go from 84-85 you either fell asleep at your keyboard or sat in org trolling for 4.5 hours.

The world first, Athene, has been banned on multiple occasions on different accounts for exploting the game in different ways. He also started 9 hours before any of us in America did, clocking in at 6 hours played to 85.

took me 16 Hours (: Questing and Dungeons This was a Nice Mix as Dungeon Queue was like 35 Mins, So I would quest my heart out then dungeon. Getting Exp money and gear etc.. Also, its fastest to move zone per level.

MH 80-81 VJ 81-82 Dh 82-83 UD 83-84 TH 84-85

Yea you wont Finish Zones, but you will level Faster. Just ding once in 1 zone, Run back to Stormwind, Collect quest from Heros Call and next Zone.

Good luck
