Elemental Dungeon Leveling Build?

VOTES

What talent build choices would you recommend for leveling an Elemental Shaman? My primary spec is Restoration...but I'm flirting with queuing up as Elemental for some fun and a change of pace. (I have almost no interest in solo questing.) I am currently level 40, but of course I'm interested in where to go from here to 80 as well. I found quite a few differing opinions when I poked about for an answer...so any explanations and reasoning for why you prefer one option over another would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Leveling as Elemental in Cata is going to change greatly...there is going to be new attacks for lower levels...and you also have to remember that the talet tree's are only going to have 31 points or so. Also this varys on how you want to level...if you want to do random dungeons I would stick with resto because faster que times..If you want to level in PvP I would go Elemental because that pulls some nice range damage.

This question isn't about Cataclysm ;) – ♦♦gnarf (Jul 26 2010 10:09 PM)

Take a look at this build.

I am not sure of your level so I filled it out completely. Basically a pvp build is great for leveling. This build is pretty close to the standard elemental build for pve content however I moved around 5 or 6 points.

Talents like elemental warding help you take less damage. Astral shift is not spectacular but it is worth putting 1 point in it is fine.

Instant ghost wolf for those situations where it is just faster to get from point A to B w/ an instant 40% speed boost. Also a great way to get out of bad situations.

If you want to keep up the pace in dungeons, you´re going to need your mana regen much more than damage. A little survivability doesn´t hurt either. That brings me to this build. Depending on your play style, you could spend the remaining points in things like Eye of the Storm and Elemental Warding if you find yourself pulling aggro a lot. You could also move some points around and take AoE improving talents like Improved Fire Nova and Call of Flame.

You might also want to consider spending some points in resto, so you can take over if the healer dies. This can save a lot of wipes over time. Then you would end up with something like this

levelling through dungeons instead of PVE is a substantial way of gaining XP now. the LFG insta que is fantastic.

That being said... entering as a tank or in your case healer decreases wait time versus a elemental DPS spec.

If your trying to level through dungeons specifically i would recommend levelling restoration to que faster.

Go to the arguement of what you like to play. If it is elemental then push for mana regen until you can get your thunderstorm ability to regen large chunks of mana... and you might want to invest in the glyph as well as you will probably piss of party members with the push back...Glyph of Thunderstorm

avoid talents that have no direct affect on your damage or survivability... levelling specs are not usually pretty, they just get the job done. When you ding 80 go ahead and rebuild a proper spec.
