Future of Shaman mana regen?

VOTES

Now shamens have been at a weak point and it seems gained quite alot with their healing in the t10 stage, as I see in my resto shamen. My one question is that shamens have 1 mana cd (mana tide totem), so when spirit regen is brought to the shamen world how will we be balanced with the more mana efficient classes that we see now?(example: disc priest, resto druid)

Side note :This question is not about going oom just about how to balance the shamen class with the spirit stat.

Water Shield seems like a nice boost to mana regen and I haven't seem too many shamans running OOM while healing so I don't see this as a large problem. – Woldo (Jul 28 2010 1:43 PM)

All you need to know is this:

  • MP5 is being removed as a stat on gear. Existing amounts of MP5 will be converted to Spirit
  • Every class (that uses Mana) will regenerate their Mana from Spirit.
  • Every class in their healing spec will regenerate a certain amount of Mana while in combat. (I am not sure if other classes can passively regenerate Mana at the moment, I am not in the Cataclysm beta.)
  • Ghostcrawler has warned that Shamans will especially have to watch their Mana more. Then again, I'd say this would also apply to other healers too.
  • The most Mana efficient heal will be Healing Wave. This is because of how Blizzard has changed the way healing works. Blizzard have designed this heal to be used the most.
  • Lesser Healing Wave will become a situational heal. While it heals fast and for a lot of health, it will be an expensive heal in Cataclysm. Other healing classes will be balanced in a similar way in the next expansion. Namely... the class will get a typical heal that costs low amounts of Mana, a fast heal that costs more Mana, and a huge heal that costs even more Mana.
  • Greater Healing Wave will be a new ability which will be their most powerful but most costly heal. Once again, this will be situational, presumingly when the target needs a significant amount of healing.
  • Mana Tide Totem will still exist as a primary mana regeneration ability.
  • The Mastery Stat will also be fairly useful for Restoration Shamans, as Deep Healing will increase their healing done, especially on targets with a lower percentage of remaining health.
  • Chain Heal will remain. But I assume it will be a situational multiple target heal.
  • Earth Shield will stay as it is, but will be available immediately at level 10 the moment the Shaman specs into Restoration.

Not trying to hijack this question. I agree with everything Clbull has said in his answer as I've read that as well. What was missed was water shield. What I've read on the Blizzard board by Blizzard rep's is that the water shield will still have it's MP5 and flash mana as well as the totems. Has that since changed? If not then, with some points in enhance with the current tree, it's near impossible to run out of mana unless you over heal alot or have a very soft tank. That said with the changes to tanks shield block and parry you might still run into a problem as they're taking more damage but also have alot more hit points.
