In WoW now you have hybrid specs such as arcane/frost mages, ret/holy/and prot pallys, but in cat you will have to chose your spec what you want to be. Does this mean that the hybrids specs are going away and are no longer possible, If so then will there be a boost to certain specs like spell power benefits or attack power benefit, or healing benefits.

When have you seen these hybrid specs and were they even effective? Most players I see go down really deep into one tree, usually for the 51 point talent and then dip into others. – Woldo Jul 30 at 0:09
Some was way OP! They are ballancing the spec's and since they are buffing the spells to have some the effect of old talents already part of them spells! they really don't want op hybrid spec to throw off the ballancing the classes! All the new stuff is to balance it once for all! – tombstonex Jul 30 at 12:28
my priest is disc spec but i dip into holy for the benefits of healing like improved renew op is nice but the only reason i went disc is the endurance on healing holy heals are great but if your in a long fight your done – Unreel Aug 11 at 18:23

There were quit a few hybrid build viable throughout WoW's history. The SL/SL lock, the mutilate/preperation pvp rogue and a healing pally build relying on sheath of light to name a few. Blizzard has stated that they never intended these builds to actually work and the new requirement of 31 points in one talent tree gives the death blow to weird hybrid builds. There is still 10 additional points to put into the other trees. And from the talents I've looked at there is still some cross builds but nothing of huge significance.

I've personally had a chance to mess around in beta with the talent trees. You must finish a tree before you are able to put any other points into another tree hence there will be hybrid specs but not like before. You will have significantly less points to spend in another tree once you've filled out one whole tree. As you might know they have dropped the amount of talent points you are able to have down by quite a bit. Here is a wonderful website for you to look around and get some familiarity with the upcoming talent trees: Cataclysm Talent Tree Calculator
